Menice Ballfield Flag is Temporarily Down

If anyone notices that the flag and flagpole at the Menice Ballfield is gone, please do not worry, it will be back soon.

The DPW had to remove it to make repairs to the pole itself, rebuild the base, install a new rope and paint the ball on top. Once all of the parts are finished and ready, the pole will be re-installed. If you looked closely at the pole before, you could notice it had a slight lean to it from the wind, when it is reset, it will be leveled and secured upright.

We are hoping to re-install it all tomorrow, weather and wind permitting.

Please Check Your Storm Drains

PLEASE CLEAN ANY CATCH BASINS IN FRONT OF YOUR HOME

With the amount of frozen ground everywhere and an anticipated rise in temperatures followed by some significant rains coming towards the end of the week, the DPW is asking all residents to help to minimize any street flooding and potentially any residential flooding by making sure that any catch basins in front of your properties are clear.

These basins will not work to drain the surface run-off if they are clogged with leaves, ice or other debris. Please take a moment to make sure that the grates are clear of obstructions.

The DPW is doing what we can to make sure that everything is clear and ready for rain but we are still cleaning up from this past weekends rain-snow-freeze event.

Any assistance that you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

FYI - Christmas Tree Burning Today

Just a heads up in case anyone around the southern end of Hull or around the West Corner/Weir River area smells any smoke or sees an open flame, the DPW will be burning the Christmas trees that were collected over the past couple of weeks.

It will be a controlled burn and they will be burned in small bunches to keep it manageable.

There is only a slight breeze so most of the smoke should stay local.

Hull Fire has been notified and they will alert the neighboring towns of the burn in case any smoke enters their areas.

We are still accepting trees at the DPW, if you have to drop a tree off today, please leave it near the back of the building and not near the burn site for safety reasons.

Please contact the DPW if you have any questions.

Sandbag Guidance

DPW Will Offer Free Sandbags Again

Due to the multiple areas of town that experience temporary and sometimes extended periods of flooding before, during and after winter storms and rain events, the DPW will once again be offering free sandbags to Hull residents.

In the past, residents were able to come to the DPW and pick up the sandbags as needed. This will still be option but this year, we will be staging pallets at a couple different locations in town to make it easier for residents to get them. Once the pallets are positioned, we will make another post to inform everyone of their locations.

Please be advised that there are certain ways that are and are not allowed to place sandbags on your property. Below is a memo from the Hull Conservation Administrator Chris Krahforst on placing the sandbags in the appropriate manner. You can also view this by clicking here.

If you have any questions about getting sandbags, please call the DPW at (781) 925-0900.
If you have questions about the placing of sandbags, please call Conservation at (781) 925-8102.
