Winter Tips

With tomorrow marking the first calendar day of winter, the DPW wants to ask for your help in making this season a safe one.

Once the snow starts to fly, please do your part to help in the snow removal efforts if possible by staying off the roads unless it’s an emergency, do not shovel snow from your driveway or walkway into the streets, clear snow from the sidewalks in front of your house, remove all portable items from the edge of the road (basketball hoops, trash barrels, etc), and most of all, if you see a plow truck, please give them the room they need to pass safely.

Please remember to check your vents to ensure that they are clear of snow build-up to avoid any possible carbon monoxide exposure. If you have elderly or disabled neighbors, please check on them to make sure that they are alright as well.

Basketball hoops and other items left along the roadside could be damaged and could cause damage to Town-owned plows or even injury to snow plow drivers, please make sure they are removed

FREE Computer Electronics (IT) Recycling

The Department of Public Works is now accepting old electronics items that RESIDENTS are looking to properly dispose of.

You can now bring these items to the DPW garage at 9 Nantasket Ave during normal business hours (Monday through Thursday 7am-4:15pm and Friday 7am -noon). Please check in at the office and you will be directed on where to drop your item(s) off.

We are currently not taking electronics items from businesses, just from residents at this time. Please be prepared to show proof of residency when dropping items off.

This is being done as a courtesy and a benefit to residents and is not a permanent event, if for some reason we have to discontinue this collection, updates will be posted on social media and on our website.

Below is a list of acceptable items, anything not on this list will be refused:

Please Help to Keep Storm Drains Clear

With rain expected tonight starting in the early evening and lasting throughout the night, there is a chance of localized street flooding.

There are several spots in town that have repetitive street flooding issues whenever we get heavy rain events. Please do your part to help minimize street flooding by assisting the DPW by clearing leaves away from any storm drains in your neighborhood.

Our crews are out there everyday working to remove leaves and other obstructions that prevent rainwater and street run-off from entering the drainage system but with over 2,000 drains and a small crew, it's often difficult to get to all of them.

If you do experience any street flooding during or after a rain event, you can call the DPW and we will send someone out as quickly as possible to try to alleviate the issue. But please understand that almost all of the pipes that are connected to our drainage system in town discharge into the bay or to the ocean. Unfortunately, there are some times when the height of the tide interferes with the drainage system working properly and nothing can be done until the tide subsides.

US Flags Will Be Lowered Again

If you see that the US flags have been lowered to half staff this weekend, it is out of respect for the day of interment for US Army Chief Warrant Officer John Sawyer Moore of Hopedale, formerly of Framingham, who passed away suddenly on October 18, 2018.

Mr. Moore achieved the rank of Chief Warrant Officer (CW4) in the United States Army Reserves where he proudly served for over thirty years.

IT Drop Off Day Postponed

Due to the pending Nor'Easter and potential for localized street flooding this Saturday, the IT Drop-Off Day that was scheduled is going to be postponed until further notice.


We will still offer this free service for Hull residents as soon as time allows.

We will update this with a new date and time as soon as we get past this weekend.

Hull DPW Chip Day POSTPONED

Due to a scheduling conflict, the Annual Fall DPW Chip Day has been postponed.

It was scheduled for this Saturday but this falls on the same day as the Head of the Weir boat race.

We will have this rescheduled in the next couple of weeks and post it on Social Media.
