The
Department of Public Works is out sanding the roads; this event is expected to
last into the night. Along with 10-15 inches of predicted snow, we are expecting
extremely high winds with gusts up to 35mph and blowing snow that can cause
white-out conditions at times.
Please
stay off the roads unless it’s an emergency. If you have to be on the road,
please give the plow trucks and sanders the room they need to navigate through our streets, these trucks are 31-feet long, 10-feet wide and weigh over
38,000 pounds. Remember, if you are behind a plow truck and you cannot see his
side mirrors, he cannot see you, please keep a safe distance behind them. And as always, watch
out for emergency vehicles as these weather events are always busy for our
first responders.
After
the snow stops, please remember to check your house vents to ensure that they
are clear of snow build-up to avoid any possible carbon monoxide exposure. If
you have elderly or disabled neighbors, please check on them to make sure that
they are alright as well.
Stay warm and stay safe.
