More Snow is Coming, PLEASE HELP

We are expecting somewhere up to 10-inches of snow coming, please do your part to help the snow removal process and to help increase public safety by staying off the roads once the snow begins to fall. Roads will be snow covered and slippery, if you don't have to be out driving around, please stay home.

One of the problems that plow operators face with every storm is the way that people park their cars along the side of the roads. The DPW trucks weigh over 30,000 pounds loaded and they do not maneuver like a smaller pick-up truck does. They require more room to operate and the turning radius is not easy to adjust when it comes to plowing in and out of parked vehicles, often leading to snow drifts in the travel lanes and narrower sections of cleared streets on the already narrow town roads.

Please be mindful of where and how you park as it may affect the effectiveness of the snow removal process. We have a great group of professional and dedicated employees at the DPW but they can only do so much when their routes are not clear of obstructions.

A couple of other reminders as well:

  • stay off the roads if you don't have to be out
  • keep the roads clear so plows can remove as much snow as possible
  • the plow operators cannot be responsible for pushing snow back into driveways while plowing the streets
    • if you shovel your driveway, put the snow on the side of your driveway or walkway in the same direction of travel so it wont get pushed back in to your driveway when a plow comes by
  • do not move snow onto the public roadways or sidewalks
  • please be patient, these guys work for many continuous hours doing the best they can, every street will be addressed
And MOST IMPORTANT, if you have a problem or issue with the DPW, please contact our office at (781) 925-0900. Criticizing and posting gripes on social media is not the proper method of alerting us of a situation that needs our attention.
